Costa Mesa police chased down a 25-year-old Santa Ana man Tuesday, Sept. 29, who allegedly had fled from a stolen car filled with items reported missing from cars by Laguna Beach and Newport Beach residents, police said.

Five different Laguna victims have been identified and their property – ranging from passports to prescription pills — returned to them, Laguna Beach Capt. Jason Kravetz said in a statement.

All were victimized during the previous Sunday and Monday, when the items were stolen from unlocked vehicles parked on Temple Hills and Dunning Drives and Viejo Street. The total loss is estimated to exceed $3,000 with some items, including a laptop and Go Pro camera, still missing.

Convicted auto thief Scott Callahan, 25, is currently in custody and detectives will be seeking additional theft charges for the Laguna Beach crimes, Kravetz said.
