Multiple Offender Re-arrested

Police arrested suspected drunk driver Derek Haskayne, 51, of Orange, on Sunday, June 7, after he refused to yield on Coast Highway and then plowed into a light pole near Aster Street and Cliff Drive about 4 p.m.

Sgt. Tim Kleiser says investigating officers found a container of gamma hydroxybutyric acid, better known as the date-rape drug GHB, in the center console of Haskayne’s car.

Kleiser says the driver, who was intoxicated, was taken to the hospital for a medical clearance, where he was arrested for suspicion of felony DUI and drugs.

Haskayne has seven prior DUI convictions and was driving on a suspended license.

 

Monday, June 1

Disorderly person. 1300 block of S. Coast Hwy. 6:16 p.m. Joseph Edward Flamm, 47, of Newport Beach, was arrested for several outstanding warrants and suspicion of carrying drug paraphernalia after police were called about a man pestering women customers.

Vandalism. 900 block of Miramar St. 7:59 p.m. Someone entered an occupied home and made a large hole in the wall.

Tuesday, June 2

Fraud report. 31300 block of Monterey St. 11:53 p.m. Identify theft by an ex-boyfriend continues to show up in credit reports.

Stolen vehicle. 500 block of Brooks St. 1:33 p.m. A resident returned from a trip and discovered a 1991 white Porsche no longer in the driveway.

Petty theft. 400 block of Loma Terrace. 4:54 p.m. A local resident who paid $1,000 for seven tickets for the Ducks playoff game through a Craigslist ad was refused entry because the tickets were fraudulent.

Disorderly person. 200 block of Forest Ave. 10:28 p.m. Shane Michael Sutton, 36, of Costa Mesa, was arrested for suspicion of assault and a probation violation after he swung a skateboard at a restaurant employee.

Wednesday, June 3

Fraud. 17990 block of Laguna Canyon Rd. 9 a.m. Two men used a fraudulent credit card to buy $595 worth of merchandise.

Animal calls. 3000 block of Via Serena, Laguna Woods. 11:20 a.m. A resident scared off a threatening coyote.

Traffic collision. State Hwy 73. 4 p.m. One person was transported to a trauma center following a three vehicle collision that also involved a motorcycle.

Burglary. 300 block of Anita St. 5:24 p.m. A computer and other items were taken from an unlocked vehicle.

Pedestrian stop. S. Coast Hwy. 7:20 p.m. Lina Mishelle Kreymer, 42, a Laguna Beach homeless person, was arrested due to a probation hold.

Smoke investigation. 700 block of S. Coast Hwy. 7:54 p.m. Smoke that filled a store was isolated to a smoking fan motor in an electrical room.

Thursday, June 4

Traffic collision. 20500 block of Laguna Canyon Road. 7:08 a.m. A car that swerved to avoid a turning vehicle sheared off a fire hydrant and plunged into a ditch. No one was injured.

Petty theft. 600 block of Hillcrest Dr. 9:35 a.m. A blue canvas bag found at Riddle Field is missing $260 in cash and a basketball.

Burglary. 32300 block of Coast Hwy. 10:30 a.m. Two doors have been pried though nothing appears missing.

Detective activity. 10400 Edinger Ave., Fountain Valley. 12:08 p.m. Gabriel Nelson Aleman Jr., 51, of Newport Beach, was arrested for suspicion of using fraudulent means to steal $10,191.

Fraud report. 900 block of Canyon View Dr. 12:16 p.m. A resident was informed by her bank that two fraudulent checks amounting to $541 were drawn on her account.

Friday, June 5

Traffic stop. 2200 block of Laguna Canyon Rd. 12:35 a.m. A 50-year-old Evanston, Ill., man was cited for DUI.

Fraud. 2100 Hillview Dr. 11:29 a.m. A resident learned someone else had filed a tax return using his social security number.

Traffic stop. 2200 block of S. Coast Hwy. 12:15 p.m. Carolyn Mary Dailey, 35, of Orange, was arrested for outstanding warrants for DUI, drug violations and possessing stolen property.

Vehicle burglary. 400 block of Forest Ave. 1 p.m. Mail discovered missing was recovered in Laguna Niguel.

Property. Moss St. 5:52 p.m. A handgun washed up on the beach; police could not find an owner.

Foot patrol. 300 block of cliff Dr. 6:18 p.m. Kendall Darone Hoyte, 42, of Los Angeles, who was digging in trash, was found to be wanted in Los Angeles for a probation violation.

Saturday, June 6

Traffic stop. Laguna Ave. 3:50 p.m. A 26-year-old from Tustin was cited for DUI.

Traffic collision. Legion St. 8:51 p.m. One passenger complained of head pain following a two car collision. Details of the crash were unavailable.

Trouble. 15-02052. 31300 block of Monterey St. 10:27 p.m. Casey Marks, 39, of Laguna Beach, was held for $50,000 bail due to his arrest for suspicion of several felonies, including domestic violence, child endangerment and weapons possession. The arrest was preceded by an alleged assault on a girlfriend, who police found bloodied at the bottom of a stairway. Marks was found nearby at his parents home and a Glock pistol hidden under a car in the garage.

Sunday, June 7

Drunk driving. State Hwy. 12:06 a.m. A 55-year-old Whittier woman was cited for DUI after police received a report about a woman puking out the window.

Traffic stop. 100 block of Brooks St. 2 a.m. Samuel Arthur Sorrels, 25, of San Clemente, was cited for DUI and held for $10,000 due to a prior offense.

Traffic stop. Graceland Dr. 7:35 a.m. Jeffrey Scott Oleson, 35, of Mission Viejo, was cited for an outstanding warrant.

Public intoxication. 100 block of N. Coast Hwy. 12:57 p.m. Veronica Lee Rankin, 56, of San Francisco, was arrested for suspicion of battery after she allegedly tried to kick and throw a bottle of vodka at an officer.

Vehicle burglary. 900 block of Laguna Canyon Rd. 4:16 p.m. Two males apparently took items from a Uhaul truck.

Traffic stop. Thalia Street. 6:32 p.m. A 24-year-old Rancho Santa Margarita man was cited for DUI.

Monday, June 8

Battery. Shreve Drive. 1:14 a.m. Two men in their 20s were arrested for trespassing and battery after security guards caught them loitering.
