A southbound vehicle struck two pedestrians in a crosswalk Saturday, Dec. 6, and Laguna Beach police closed Coast Highway in both directions between Bluebird Canyon Drive and Mountain Street for hours to investigate the accident, police said.
Traffic was backed up as far as Anita Street and on Glenneyre Street for nearly four hours.
The two injured women suffered non life-threatening injuries and were transported for treatment to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, Sgt. Tony White said. He could provide no details about their identity.
Alcohol did not seem to be a factor in the collision, but no cause has yet been established, White said. The motorist involved cooperated with the investigation, he said.
The pedestrians were attempting to cross from the inland side of Coast Highway at a crosswalk on Calliope, which is not marked with flashing lights.
