Drive Sober or Risk Getting Pulled Over
Officers from the Laguna Beach Police Department will be deploying this weekend to stop and arrest alcohol and drug-impaired drivers, police disclosed.
DUI saturation patrols will deploy over Cinco de Mayo weekend, May 4-5, between 8 p.m. and 3:30 a.m. in areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and or arrests, police promise.
Monday, April 22
Traffic collision. 600 Park Ave. 8 a.m. A man suffered abrasions to his arm after crashing into parked cars near the high school tennis courts. He swerved to avoid a rabbit crossing the road, he told police.
Attempted burglary. 300 block of Forest Ave. 10:32 a.m. Someone attempted entry overnight.
Burglary. 600 block of S. Coast Hwy. 12:19 a.m. Someone took a gold and diamond wedding band worth $2,500 as an inebriated guest slept. There were no signs of forced entry.
Indecent exposure. 600 block of S. Coast Hwy. 2:19 p.m. A transient with his pants down was arrested for being drunk in public.
Fraud. 5:39 p.m. 2100 block of Ruby Place. Someone made a $937 charge to the resident’s debit card for a foreign travel agency.
Burglary. 700 block of Davis Way. 5:52 p.m. A resident returned after a 10-day trip to find $4,000 in jewelry missing.
Stolen vehicle. Broadway. 6:12 p.m. Daniel Vault, 23, of Venice Beach was arrested for suspicion of stealing his parents’ car, driving it to the Coachella Music Festival. Bail was set at $20,000.
Tuesday, April 23
Stake out. 300 block of Thalia St. 1:51 p.m. James Willis, 56, of Murrieta, was arrested for suspicion of possessing stolen license plates after officers noticed two different plates on his vehicle. He allegedly stole plates to avoid DMV fees. Instead, he posted $20,000 bail.
Fraud report. 21300 Stans Lane. 2:21 p.m. A grandfather sent two $1,000 cash infusions to a caller pretending to be his grandson before realizing it was a scam.
Wednesday, April 24
Theft. 21500 block of Wesley Dr. 3 p.m. Someone swiped outdoor lights and a lemon tree.
Grand theft. 200 block of Pearl St. 6:41 p.m. Two Danish lounge chairs valued at $1,000 each were stolen from a front yard as a resident was unloading a car.
Assault. 200 block of Forest Ave. 9:21 p.m. A female employee of a local restaurant filed an information report because she wanted to document an inappropriate touching incident, which occurred at her place of business.
Burglary. 30800 block of Coast hwy. 9:23 p.m. While a vehicle was parked in the underground parking lot near Treasure Island Beach, someone broke a window and stole a backpack.
Thursday, April 25
Burglary. 600 block of Hillcrest Dr. 8:50 a.m. Someone smashed a right rear window and made off with a $200 briefcase.
Vandalism. 100 block of McAuley place. 11:42 a.m. A car was keyed.
DUI. 13-01332. Beach St. 7 p.m. Sharyl Lynn Beeman, 44, Laguna Hills, was arrested for suspicion of DUI and held for $15,000 due to previous DUI arrests.
Disturbance. 20600 block of Laguna Canyon Rd. 8:22 p.m. Timothy Henry Harlow, 61, of Laguna Beach, was arrested for five outstanding warrants.
Friday, April 26
Traffic stop. 200 Cress St. 1:42 a.m. A 53-year-old Dallas visitor was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.
Traffic stop.. Mountain St. 7:31 a.m. Oscar Morales Nieto, 30, of Santa Ana, was arrested for traffic and DUI warrants totaling $17,600.
Vehicle burglary. 31800 block of Seaview St. 7:59 a.m. Someone stole $2 from an unlocked car.
Saturday, April 27
Drug activity. 900 block of N. Coast hwy. 12:28 a.m. Chad Vanden Langenberg, 45, of Laguna Beach, was arrested for two outstanding arrest warrants for riding a bike while inebriated.
Sewage spill. 1000 block of Skyline Dr. 5:33 p.m. A resident returned home to find a downstairs level covered in sewer water.
Sunday, April 28
Disturbance. 700 block of Gaviota Dr. 2 p.m. A 62-year-old Corona del Mar woman was arrested for suspicion of trespassing after staff signed a citizen’s arrest. She had refused to leave when staff objected to her description of them as prostitutes.
Monday, April 29
Traffic stop. Broadway St. 1:20 a.m. A 31-year-old San Jose woman was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.
Burglary. 1500 block of S. Coast hwy. 3:42 a.m. A bronze statue of undetermined value was stolen from a gallery after a suspect wearing gloves and a ski mask shattered a window.
Suspicious circumstances. Pearl Street. 6:53 p.m. Officers arrested Heidi Nicole Serna, 40, of San Juan Capistrano for suspicion of burglary, false identification to officers and a felony contempt of court bench warrant with a $20,000 bail. While officers were responding to a purse theft in a car burglary at Pearl Street, police received a call about a woman crouching behind vehicles and going through a purse. Serna allegedly had the stolen purse and was in possession of items possibly used to break the car window, said police, who intend to investigate whether Serna is suspected in the other burglaries.
